As I promised I continue the adventure into the magical roleplaying universe from my own experiences. This time I wanted to bring forward some typical player types I encountered (or the ones my friends encountered and told their stories of) as they often annoying or just very hard to get along well without feeling pissed off or disappointed.

I put them under larger categories for easier separation.

:bulletred: MARY SUES :bulletred:

This category contains those type of characters and/or players who actually not able to build up or play reasonable way their characters; making them jack-of-all-trades and often better then the other player with several cliches and often non realistic settings.

There are two type of them.

~ Mary Sue characters.
~ Mary Sue players.

Yes you see it right, not only character can be mary sue but also the player behind.
It's like this; you just spot a fantastic biography of a character very well built and interesting and sounds logical. So as it sounds cool you are eager to play with the character even but as it goes for the gaming the player behind the character makes the cool concept turn into odd and flat or even non realistic.
A roleplay containst 2 "items" a character and the player behind, and sometimes one looks better then the other one which sadly not always enough to serve the right pleasure back to you and it can lead into troubles.

So to the tasty part, Mary-Sue archetypes!

:bulletred: Mind-reader. :bulletred:

My "favourite" type of them. The player partner read the biography and aware of your character's background and story, so their character behaves already like they would know your character from early childhood. They suddenly know their past, their weaknesses and merits and behave the way that you can't bring any surprise in this game. Reading your mind, guessing your weaknesses, merits and flaws and what you just notice that with a simple hand-shake they know your whole life!
Usually when you ask about it they make their own story (which was not written in their character biography they recently made it up) how their character possessing ability to read the past/flaws of your character by a hand-shake. They were touched by your character's aura, they are reincarnation of the spirits who were guarding you from birth, or all tasty things you can imagine. Perfect way to ruin a game, pushing the game that level that they obviously know everything, you know nothing - and if you dare to return the favour you will be a bad-bad one to ruin their perfect game!

:bulletred: The Terminator. :bulletred:

Another pearl among the trash, the invincible player. Their characters are made of awesome and coolness they are great, cool, stylish and have a fantastic AWESOME aura which means; everything which would make them look bad will simply be ignored so won't effect their character. They simply not afraid, they always know which way the bad guys coming from, what is their weaknesses, when the world ends so they can save it, and they even alive when their head is cut off as it was only their clone!
These characters usually acts out of realistic settings, they don't have any flaws as they can't feel fear, they can't be scarred and they can't be hurt for whatever reason.

I remember my first more serious roleplaying session. I played with a shape-shifter whose monster form was like 3 meters tall with huge claws and strong fangs and naturally was designed to fight. He was actually an unexperienced one too; never really encountered others from his own kind and not had ideas about the world's other face much he was walking in. He once encountered a floating tiny flaming skull spirit who looked "evil" and he never seen it in his life before but this skull was somehow responsible why one of his human friend just died. This large 3 meters tall warrior monster collected the courage and slapped the skull then ran behind the door to see what's going on.
Our storyteller stopped in the story and looked at me with surprised eyes and told me he is impressed as anytime he played with these shape shifters the players were aware the battle form's merits and mindlessly went into battle everything which looked evil to kill it. But before me nobody dare to keep alive emotions and think about the character's emotional background... that his good friend died because of that thing and be monster or not, facing an unknown thing which just recently killed someone won't possibly make the character just ninja kill using the merits of the monster form's advantages.

It is nothing pleasant to play with players like this one, they simply will do everything better then you and if you dare to damage their reputation with your acts they either ignore it or just stop playing. Their characters are GOD and AWESOME and even if it would be logical in the story to play once the weak they won't do it because it would make their character look not so cool anymore so they let your character to suffer just to win their own pleasure. Let them dwell in their AWESOMENESS alone. ;)

:bulletred: Hopeless Lover.:bulletred:

"OMG IT'S SO KAWAII MY CHARACTER FELL IN LOVE WITH THEM BY SIGHT ALREADY! CAN YOU MARRY ME?"
You may find these words familiar, a player who plays with you just because the character you have just perfectly fitting their personal ideal and they immediately want to match it up with their character in some love relationship. No matter how much the characters not matching in their personality, no matter how much yours can't stand theirs it must be love for the first sight and be the unasked fate of theirs; to get together. Obviously this must happen in like 2 days without even know the other character well enough; but since they look so awesome and obviously all rp must end in love this is how it will go.
Dare to complain and you may get to know how heartless bitch you are, you just made a poor persons heart break!
Bad bad you, how could you? :O

:bulletred:Sex Addict.:bulletred:

These type the most common to me in my roleplays. They are fun but definietly not for long term game.
Who are they? Easy, the ones who live in a bed room with playthings all around and their whole universe is playing (like some cheap movie where the producer couldn't afford enough money to use more location in the movie) there. Your character jumps in finds themselves in gags and ropes and their characters crawling over them already for some more "fun". This is an advanced version of "cyber-sex" where the players themselves win some sort of release behind the monitor through their character's eyes who represent sort of their own ideal.
They don't seek for story, they not seek for adventure (unless if it is in your pants!) and happenings as they already "happen" (again in your pants) there and no need for "Boring" plot, and story. The most commonly they will ignore your weak try to make more rooms to be seen, make story to happen, to not stuck at one place (or in each other) forever and ever and ever! Playing detailed sex scenes between characters are pleasant with mature players when they both know limits and can live with them well, but going radical other direction and limit the entire rp into sex, sex and once again sex for long term boring and tiresome.
For one-time it might be fin a one-night adventure tasting each other, but dedicate yourself to it just to show how advanced your fetish knowledge is and how many methods you can think of to reach the orgasm not fun to everyone in 24/day. Doing it in real much more fun then over rp, go and get a partner instead! ;)

There are possibly ways more but personally these were my most common encounters. Feel free to suggest other types if you have any will put it up in the journal. ;)
And then we have another big Archetype group here to talk about!

:bulletred: SMARTASSES:bulletred:

That's right, we have these type of players a lot. Players who are strict in minor details or simply know as players everything better then you. The difference is that this player type usually personally think that they know everything better then you and by that of course even their character are much-much smarter then you. They read more books, they used google more often, they already watched all movies and played all games and they just know it better then you.
Don't argue, they even argue better then you!

:bulletred: Rambo / aka one-man-army.:bulletred:

This player type is very well known about being able to form a one-man-army and all alone defeat a whole military trained camp and eats them for breakfast. Their idology that they are so advanced in some technology that they already can build their own robot army because they read already about so many-many things! And of course their character already figured out how to stop Global Warming and by their amazing hack abilities already virus infected the governments computers so they just need to walk in, pose a little there, give the boring speech to the defeated leaders and then walk out with the well protected chip in their hands!
They googled a lot after informations and they know how it works, what hackers do and how to generate new viruses and how to ummobilize a whole military base because there was an article on the net they read about. Whatever you bring up is not good, they read differently from their sacred source and the person wrote it up is smarter then you so they are right. They plan everything and their game wins pleasure if they can use their brilliant brain to make a perfect escape plan and they actually happily playing with themselves while you are just watching with that typical WTF face.

:bulletred: Rule-fuckers.:bulletred:

"Hey you can't drink that guy's blood because I read in Twilight books that it is a poison for vampires!"
Aka players who read shit lots of books about your character type and pulling everything to certain rules. Or to say better nothing is possible which they didn't read already shit lots of book and if you dare to do against what they already read you doing it wrong! How dare you think of your own world and unvierse while there are so many known books already you could build up your character?
They stop the game everytime you act against the "rules" and make discussion about why what you did is wrong and you should rewrite your previous reply. It is worse when both of you playing in an existing rpg universe where your partner may read all possible source books and editions knowing every single page how it looks like and how it smells and you not allowed act against it because it is written in the rules!
Do not dare to do against the rules or they will find you and put you in the darkes dungeon ever until you regret all your sins!

There are of course ways more to list and more bigger Archetype groups as well. These are actually examples about some different player types you can most possibly meet with. Of course you can find your pleasure with them, but if not and you not feeling happy out of it not worth to go with.
It is hard to find roleplaying partner for longer term you could enjoy not just fool around sometime here and there.

And to end this journal entry I highly recommend everyone who enjoys roleplaying or interested in this golden video serie to watch (all 5 parts of it);

o god The Gamers <3 i love you! A wonderful movie even if some would call it B rated.

And you are very right on all of those aspects and I myself has experienced a handful of those types of roleplayers... Sadly i've pretty much given up roleplaying aside from a few special someones because of people that roleplays like this...

however, it's journals like these that gives me hope that not everyone is just trying to get into my pants or so OP that they're the shit or can never die... or rule followers where everything i do or say they don't like is wrong...

*shivers*

Anywho, well written journal and a wonderful movie that I might just watch again! ironically I have A DnD thing to do today so this should put me in the mood :D
